Verdicts and Settlements

Over the course of his career, Bruce Abel has tried, arbitrated, and mediated over 500 cases and settled more than 1,000 cases ranging in value from thousands to millions of dollars.  The following are some of the notable verdicts and settlements he has obtained on his clients' behalf:

Personal Injury

• Recovered $1.25 million for a client injured in an automobile accident (reported in the Daily Journal and Verdicts and Settlements).
• Recovered $750,000 for a client injured in a construction accident.
• Obtained a $987,000 judgment for a client injured in automobile crash.
• Obtained a $567,000 judgment for an injured motorcyclist.

Business Litigation

• $2.7 million award for defrauded partner in a hard fought 30 day binding arbitration before a retired California judge.   
• Successfully defended a company against a $2.25 million commercial claim.  Through careful litigation strategy, the case was dismissed with prejudice on the first day of trial.
• Recovered $2.6 million for a contractor in litigation with a school district.   

Employment Discrimination

• Negotiated a $2.5 million settlement in a race discrimination case against a powerful government entity (Reported in the Daily Journal).
• After years of aggressively prosecuting lawsuit for claims based on national origin discrimination against a powerful California political entity, the case settled for a value equal to $1.3 million.
• Successfully defended four individuals and a corporation against claims of sexual harassment.  Defense jury verdict affirmed on appeal.

General Litigation Matters

• Successfully defended a criminal defendant through a 7 day felony preliminary hearing.
• Successfully defended a client accused of carrying a concealed weapon at an airport.  The case was dismissed with a finding of factual innocence.
• Successfully defended lawyers accused of malpractice.
• Successfully defended doctors accused of malpractice.
• Argued before the California Supreme Court and California Court of Appeal.
